Notamify Now Supports Non-ICAO Airport Codes: Expanding Access to FAA-Only Airports
8/23/2025
We're excited to announce that Notamify now supports non-ICAO airport codes, dramatically expanding access to NOTAM information for thousands of U.S. airports that previously weren't searchable on our platform or through our API.
Breaking Down the Barrier
Until now, Notamify only supported 4-letter ICAO codes (like KJFK). This left a significant gap: thousands of smaller airports with only FAA 3-letter identifier codes were effectively invisible in our system, despite having active NOTAMs.
What This Means for You
Expanded Coverage
You can now access NOTAM information for:
- General aviation airports with FAA identifiers (like 7B9, 6B6, 1B1)
- Regional airports not assigned ICAO codes
- Private airfields and heliports with FAA registration
Web Platform & API Support
This feature works across all Notamify services:
- Web platform → Search using 3-letter FAA codes directly
- Notamify API → Full API support for FAA airport codes
- All features included → AI interpretation, mapping, timeline views, and atomic elements
Smart Code Recognition
Our system intelligently handles both code types:
- 4-letter codes (KJFK, EGLL) → Processed as ICAO identifiers
- 3-letter codes (7B9, 1B1, 6B6) → Processed as FAA identifiers
- Automatic detection → No need to specify code type
Examples
Example airports now accessible:
- 1B1 → Columbia County Airport (New York)
- 6B6 → Minute Man Air Field (Massachusetts)
- 6W4 → Yanceyville Muni
API Integration
For developers using the Notamify API, FAA codes work seamlessly:
GET /api/v2/notams?locations=1B1
GET /api/v2/notams?locations=6B6
All API endpoints now accept both ICAO and FAA airport codes with automatic recognition.
Summary
With non-ICAO support, Notamify now provides:
- Universal U.S. airport access → Any airport with an FAA identifier
- Full API compatibility → Complete programmatic access
- Seamless integration → Same features across all airport types
- Enhanced safety → Complete NOTAM coverage for all operations
This update removes barriers to comprehensive flight planning and ensures complete NOTAM intelligence access for all U.S. airports, whether you're using our web platform or integrating via API.
