Interpretation

To minimize takeoff and landing separation and improve runway efficiency, landing aircraft should fully vacate the runway via the first or second rapid-exit taxiway near the touchdown zone. Medium and smaller aircraft must fully vacate within 50 seconds after crossing the runway threshold; heavy and larger aircraft must fully vacate within 70 seconds. If unable to comply, pilots must inform ATC before reaching the final approach fix. These requirements do not apply when the runway is wet or contaminated.
