EST EXPIRED and EST EXPIRING: Clearer Estimated NOTAM Labels

6/16/2026

We updated NOTAM cards and list views to make estimated end times easier to scan.

Previously, estimated NOTAMs could show a simple EST label. Based on feedback from our beta tester, we replaced that with more precise labels that appear only when the estimated end time is operationally relevant.

What changed

Notamify now shows two labels for estimated NOTAMs:

LabelWhen it appearsWhat it means
EST EXPIRINGThe estimated end time is less than 3 hours awayThe NOTAM is approaching its estimated end and may still be extended
EST EXPIREDThe estimated end time has already passedThe NOTAM may still be active because the end time was estimated

Plain estimated NOTAMs no longer show a generic EST badge in cards and list views. The goal is to reduce noise and highlight the cases that deserve attention during review.

Why this matters for flight planning

A NOTAM does not have to be EST or PERM. Many NOTAMs have a normal fixed validity period. Some are PERM, and some carry an estimated end time marked as EST.

When a NOTAM is EST, the end time is not the same as a confirmed cancellation. If the estimated end time has passed, the NOTAM still needs to be considered for flight planning until it is cancelled, replaced, or officially updated.

That is why EST EXPIRED is intentionally more visible than the old EST label. It tells you: do not ignore this NOTAM just because the displayed end time is in the past.
