Interpretation

Aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) status is reduced to Level B 80% for C-5 aircraft only. Firefighting and rescue capability is below optimum for large-aircraft incidents or structural fires. Crews can be expected to control exterior fires to maintain a rescue path for one minute, but aircrew must exit under their own power with firefighter assistance at egress points. Rescuing multiple trapped people would severely endanger rescuers, and response times may not be met for C-5 and 747 airframes.

FIREFIGHTING AND RESCUE CAPABILITY ARE LESS THAN OPTIMUM TO ASSURE SUCCESSFUL AIRCRAFT FIREFIGHTING AND RESCUE INVOLVING LARGE AIRCRAFT OR STRUCTURAL FIRE SUPPRESSION. FIREFIGHTING FORCES CAN STILL BE EXPECTED TO FIGHT AND CONTROL EXTERIOR FIRES IN SUCH A MANNER AS TO MAINTAIN A RESCUE PATH FOR ONE MINUTE. AIRCREW MUST EXIT UNDER THEIR OWN POWER WITH FIREFIGHTER ASSISTANCE AR EGRESS POINTS. ATTEMPTED RESCUE OF MULTIPLE TRAPPED PERSONNEL SEVERELY ENDANGERS RESCUERS. RESPONSE TIMES MAY NOT BE MET FOR C-5 & 747 AIRFRAME.
