Interpretation

Interior and exterior aircraft fire-suppression capability is downgraded to a critical level of service for category 8 and larger aircraft, including C-17, KC-135 and C-5, and to a reduced level for categories 1–7. At the critical level, ARFF expects to achieve initial control of a pool fire, but full extinguishment and interior firefighting are limited by available water and aircraft size; lifesaving takes priority and aircraft assets are expected to be lost.

DURING CRITICAL LEVEL OF SERVICE, ARFF RESPONSE OBJECTIVE OF INITIAL CONTROL OF THE POOL FIRE IS EXPECTED TO BE ACCOMPLISHED. FULL EXTINGUISHMENT OF THE POOL FIRE OR INTERIOR FIREFIGHTING IS LIMITED BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF WATER AVAILABLE AND AIRCRAFT SIZE. EFFORTS ARE CONCENTRATED ON LIFESAVING ACTIONS; HOWEVER, ASSETS ARE EXPECTED TO BE LOST.
