Interpretation

ZJHK is conducting a trial of airport visual approach operations. When weather permits visual approaches, ATIS will advise available approach methods, and visual approaches may be initiated by ATC or requested by pilots with mutual consent. ATC provides separation until visual approach clearance is issued; thereafter pilots are responsible for maintaining visual contact and safe separation from traffic and obstacles, including when following a preceding aircraft to the same runway. Speed should be at least 170 kt IAS until 7 NM to touchdown unless otherwise instructed, and aircraft should vacate the runway as soon as able with a target of within 50 seconds from threshold crossing (advise ATC before landing if more time is needed). If visual reference is lost or a visual approach cannot be completed, pilots must inform ATC; ATC may assist with switching to an instrument approach, suspending the approach, or executing a missed approach. If a missed approach is initiated during a visual approach, follow ATC instructions or the instrument missed approach procedure while maintaining obstacle clearance and safe separation.

AFTER RECEIVING THE VISUAL APPROACH CLEARANCE, THE PILOT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAIN SAFE SEPARATION BETWEEN THE ACFT AND GROUND OBSTACLES,AND FLY TOWARD THE LANDING AIRPORT OR FOLLOW THE PRECEDING ACFT FOR APPROACH. AFTER RECEIVING THE VISUAL APPROACH FOLLOWING PRECEDING ACFT CLEARANCE,THE PILOT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAIN SAFE SEPARATION BETWEEN PRECEDING ACFT OF THE SAME RWY. 2.4 WHEN IMPLEMENT VISUAL APPROACH ,PILOTS SHOULD COMPLY WITH THE FOLLOWING SPEED RESTRICTIONS UNTIL OTHERWISE INSTRUCTED, IAS NOT LESS THAN 170KT TO 7NM TO TOUCHDOWN. WHILE ACFT CONDUCTING A SHORT FINAL VISUAL APPROACH,PILOTS MAY MAINTAIN SPEED AT OWN DISCRETION. 2.5 PILOTS CONDUCTING VISUAL APPROACHES VACATE RWY AS SOON AS ABLE AFTER LANDING, THE TIME FROM THE ACFT CROSSING THE RWY THRESHOLD TO THE ACFT VACATING THE RWY SHOULD BE CONTROLLED WI 50 SECONDS. FLIGHT CREW SHALL INFORM ATC IF MORE TIME NEEDED BEFORE LANDING. 3. EMERGENCY PROCEDURES 3.1 DURING A VISUAL APPROACH,IF A VISUAL APPROACH CANNOT BE COMPLETED BECAUSE OF LOSING A VISUAL REFERENCE (AIRPORT, RWY OR PRECEDING ACFT) AND OTHER REASONS. PILOT SHALL INFORM ATC IN TIME,ATC MAY ASSIST THE PILOT TO SWITCH TO INSTRUMENT APPROACH,SUSPEND APPROACH OR MISSED APPROACH PROCEDURE DEPENDING ON THE PILOT'S INTENTIONS. 3.2 WHEN MISSED APPROACH DURING VISUAL APPROACH,PILOT SHALL FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS OF ATC OR REFER THE INSTRUMENT MISSED APPROACH PROCEDURE. DURING THE MISSED APPROACH,THE PILOT SHALL MAINTAIN SAFE SEPARATION BETWEEN THE ACFT AND GROUND OBSTACLES.
