Interpretation
Pudong Airport visual approaches are in regular operation when prevailing visibility exceeds 5,000 m and the ceiling is at least 700 m. A visual approach requires mutual pilot and ATC agreement and may be cleared after the pilot reports the landing runway or preceding aircraft in sight. After clearance, the pilot selects altitude and heading and is responsible for safe separation from the preceding aircraft and ground obstacles. Visual approach information will be broadcast on ATIS. ATC will terminate the visual approach if it cannot be completed, weather falls below the required criteria, or flight safety may be affected, and will provide instructions and separation for conversion to an instrument approach or approach termination. When visual separation is used on final, the pilot must maintain visual observation and safe separation from other aircraft.
