Interpretation

Operational trial for runway selection criteria and their use. To change from the preferential runway configuration, ATC will consider runway and taxiway availability, instrument approach procedures and the availability of approach and landing aids, and significant meteorological conditions including tailwind, crosswind, windshear, thunderstorms, wet runway conditions, or poor braking action. The surface wind components are guidelines for ATC runway selection and not operational limits. Runway configuration 34R may be changed to 16L when the surface wind component from the northern quadrants is steadily below 8 knots for at least 10 minutes. The actual configuration change may occur later when current traffic conditions permit.

IN ORDER TO CHANGE THE RUNWAY CONFIGURATION FROM THE PREFERENTIAL

- RWY AND TWY AVAILABILITY
- INSTRUMENT APCH PROCEDURES AND AVAILABILITY OF APCH AND LDG AIDS
- SIGNIFICANT METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS (SURFACE TAILWIND COMPONENT
EXCEEDING 8 KNOTS OF STEADY WIND FOR AT LEAST 10 MINUTES EXCLUDING
GUSTS, SURFACE CROSSWIND COMPONENT EXCEEDING 30 KNOTS EXCLUDING
GUSTS, WINDSHEAR REPORTED OR FORECAST, THUNDERSTORMS THAT MAY
AFFECT THE APPROACH OR DEPARTURE PHASES, WET RUNWAY CONDITIONS OR
POOR BRAKING ACTION)
- THE SURFACE WIND COMPONENTS ARE NOT TO BE INTENDED AS OPERATIONAL
LIMITS, BUT RATHER AS GUIDELINES FOR ATC RUNWAY SELECTION
- THE RUNWAY CONFIGURATION IN USE 34R MAY BE CHANGED TO
CONFIGURATION 16L WHEN THE SURFACE WIND COMPONENT FROM THE NORTHERN
QUADRANTS IS FOR AT LEAST 10 MINUTES STEADILY BELOW 8 KNOTS
- IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT WHILE THE TWR PREPARES THE NEW RUNWAY
CONFIGURATION BASED ON THE CONDITIONS, THE ACTUAL CHANGE OF
CONFIGURATION MAY TAKE PLACE LATER, WHEN CURRENT TFC CONDITIONS
PERMIT.
